Day 1: Depart from the Rio Grande Valley of Texas, clearing Mexican customs in Reynosa. Ride through purple sage country toward the mountains that surround Cd. Victoria. Enjoy the everchanging scenery through the new “shortcut” recently completed which saves about two hours of driving time through the Sierra Madres. Arrive earlier at San Luis Potosi, and spend the night at the fashionable Real Plaza Hotel in the heart of town. Includes Musical Serenade this evening.
Day 2: Sightseeing in San Luís Potosí includes the Governor's Palace (dating from the 1700's), the cathedral and the baroque Teatro de la Paz. (The Mexican National Anthem was written here, by the way). You'll drive through the mountains on your way to Mexico City, with sightseeing and lunch (Dutch treat) in Queretaro (time for opal shop). Sit back and enjoy the view. There will be rest stops and time for picture taking. Late afternoon arrival in Mexico City, entering through majestic Paseo de la Reforma. Your host hotel for the next three days is the Hotel Century in the Zona Rosa.
Breakfast Included
Day 3: Sightseeing this morning includes a visit to the Guadalupe Shrine and the ancient Pyramids of
Teotihuacan (sun and moon) larger in mass than those in Egypt, then visit the Museum of Anthropology,
Chapultepec Park, the Presidential Palace and the immense National Cathedral on the gigantic main square, the Zócalo, built on top of the ancient pyramids of the pre-Conquest (1521) Aztec city, Tenochtitlán.
Breakfast, Box Lunch Included
Day 4: Today you'll visit Cuernavaca, a long-time favorite second home of Mexico's rulers since the time of the Aztec Emperors. You'll continue on to Taxco, a city draped over the mountainside like cascading bougainvillea. The beauty of its red tile roofs, winding cobblestone lanes and colonial architecture have caused it to be named as an historic monument. Of course there will be time for shopping. Return to Mexico City and your hotel in the evening.
Breakfast, Lunch Included
Day 5: After hotel checkout, you'll soon arrrive at San Miguel de Allende, so beautiful that it has been declared a national Monument. You'll have a complete City Tour, including the Instituto Allende, Institute of Fine Arts, and many of its attractive public buildings. You'll certainly enjoy shopping in San Miguel, shopper's
paradise! Hotel Rancho Atascadero, one of Mexico's most romantic inns, is your host hotel tonight.
Breakfast Included
Day 6: Board your motorcoach for a ride to Saltillo for an overnight at the elegant Hotel Camino Real, a beautiful retreat on a hill overlooking the city.
Day 7: Homeward bound! Your motorcoach will carry you across the magnificent Sierra Madres and back to the Rio Grande Valley, bringing to a close seven memorable days of sightseeing in Mexico. Arrival about 5:30 PM.
